Cyprus President Emphasizes Historical Respect in Solution to National Issue

Pyrgos:A potential solution to the Cyprus issue must respect historical context and not be based on self-dissolution, stated President Nikos Christodoulides. He made these remarks during the inauguration of the 'Monument to the EOKA Liberation Struggle Fighters 1955-1959' in Pyrgos village, Limassol district.

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides highlighted the ongoing efforts by the Cypriot government to break the current deadlock in negotiations, despite the counterproductive rhetoric from Turkey. The government is actively using political and diplomatic channels to create conditions for resuming talks, while also focusing on strengthening the Republic of Cyprus.

The President also announced financial support for local initiatives, including 10,000 euros to assist the Pyrgos Community Council with debts related to the monument's creation. Additionally, the government will allocate 150,000 pounds to complete a project aimed at revitalizing the traditional core of Pyrgos.

Discussing the EU's new Multiannual Financial Framework, Christodoulides revealed plans to decide on projects worth 3.5 billion pounds by September 2027. He encouraged local authorities to advance their project proposals to secure funding.

Cyprus has remained divided since 1974, following the invasion and occupation of 37% of its territory by Turkish forces.
