New york: Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Kamal Madbouly engaged in discussions on strategic cooperation, regional stability, and the strengthening of bilateral relations during a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the discussions centered on bilateral relations, emphasizing the importance Cyprus places on regional cooperation with leaders of the wider region, particularly in light of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The President reaffirmed appreciation for Egypt’s longstanding support on the Cyprus issue, both bilaterally and within international organizations.
Letymbiotis noted that the meeting also explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and energy. Specific attention was given to the development of the ‘Cronos’ and ‘Aphrodite’ fields, as well as broader interconnectivity projects in electricity and renewable energy sources.
The discussions included strengthening EU-Egypt relations, with President Christodoulides confirming Cyprus’s ongoing support for Egypt within the EU framework, especially ahead of the Cyprus EU Council Presidency. The upcoming EU-Egypt Summit on 22 October was highlighted as significant.
Finally, the leaders exchanged views on regional developments, including the situations in Gaza, Lebanon, Libya, and Sudan, agreeing on the need for political solutions to prevent further destabilization.
