Nicosia: The House of Representatives in Cyprus is set to host a significant meeting on Friday involving the Council of the European Association of former members of Parliament from Council of Europe member states. This gathering is being organized following an initiative by Sophoclis Fittis, the President of the Association of Former MPs of the Republic of Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the meeting will see the participation of members of the presidency of the European Association and former parliament members from 17 member states of the Council of Europe. Additionally, members of the Board of Directors of the Association of Former MPs of Cyprus will also be present.
The event will feature addresses by Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives, Filippo Lombardi, President of the European Association, and Sophoclis Fittis, President of the Association of Former Cyprus MPs. A key topic for discussion will be a draft report on ‘Europe and the Sea’, which is anticipated to be adopted at the Association’s next meeting in September 2025.
Furthermore, attendees will engage in a discussion titled ‘Cyprus between East and West: past, present and future’, led by Euripides Evriviades, former Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, serving as the keynote speaker.
The gathering will extend into Saturday, with participants scheduled to meet separately with the Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, and the Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vyras. The program also includes guided tours to sites of historical and cultural significance in both Nicosia and Larnaca.
