Cyprus Meteorology Department Predicts Slight Sea Conditions Amid Weak Low Pressure

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has released a forecast for the sea area surrounding Cyprus, predicting slight sea conditions due to a weak low-pressure system affecting the region. The forecast covers an 8-kilometer seawards area and is valid from 1200 on February 8, 2026, to 1200 on February 9, 2026.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast issue was 1009 hPa. The department noted that locally increased cloud cover would be present at times. There is also a risk of local mist or fog during the night and dawn, with dust in suspension expected to clear by early night.

Visibility in the area is expected to be good, although it may be locally moderate. Sea surface temperatures are recorded at 18°C, with no warnings issued for the forecast period.

The forecast details for each coastal area are as follows:

- West Coast: Winds will be southeast to southwest at Beaufort scale 3 to 4 in the afternoon, shifting to northwest to north 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5 during the night, and northwest 4 in the morning. The sea state is predicted to be slight throughout.

- South Coast: Afternoon winds will be southwest to west 3 to 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5 locally. Overnight, winds will remain southwest to west 4, later shifting locally to west to northwest 3. Morning winds will be southwest to west 3, increasing to 4. The sea state will remain slight.

- East Coast: Winds in the afternoon will be southwest to west 3 to 4, locally 4, resulting in smooth to slight, locally slight sea conditions. Overnight, winds will shift from southwest to northwest 3 to 4, later becoming variable 3. Morning conditions will see southwest to west winds 3, increasing to 3 to 4, with smooth to slight sea conditions.

- North Coast: Afternoon winds will be south to southwest 3 to 4, locally 4, with slight sea conditions. Overnight, winds will vary from southwest to northwest 3 to 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5 locally. Morning conditions will see southwest to northwest winds 3 to 4, locally 4, with a slight sea state expected.
