Cyprus Hosts World Organisation for Animal Health Conference in Larnaka

Larnaka: The 18th Conference of the Middle East Regional Commission of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) is set to be held in Larnaka from November 24 to 28. The event is poised to gather senior officials, scientific bodies, and international organisations to deliberate on critical issues concerning animal health, antimicrobial resistance, One Health, climate impacts, zoonoses, and regional preparedness.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the conference’s opening ceremony on Monday morning will be addressed by the Minister of Health, Michalis Damianos. Following the opening, media statements will be made by the WOAH Director General, Dr. Emmanuelle Soubeyran, Minister of Health Michalis Damianos, and the Minister of Agriculture of Jordan, Dr. Saeb Khreisat.

Dr. Emmanuelle Soubeyran, the Organisation’s Director General, is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech titled ‘WOAH in the Middle East: Empowering Veterinary Services, increasing visibility and modernising WOAH’ on Monday. This will be succeeded by a presentation on the Jurisdictions and Actions Framework of Cyprus’ Veterinary Services, aimed at ensuring animal welfare, animal health, and public health, delivered by Christodoulos Pipis, the Organisation’s representative in Cyprus and Director of the Veterinary Services.
