Cyprus Government Affirms Commitment to Resolving Cyprus Issue

Nicosia:The Government of Cyprus remains steadfast in its commitment to finding a just, sustainable, and functional solution to the Cyprus problem, as stated by Agriculture Minister Christos Senekis. The solution is to be based on the agreed framework and relevant United Nations resolutions.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Minister Senekis emphasized the government's determination not to let the ongoing deadlock lead to resignation or allow time to become a silent ally to partition. This statement was made during a memorial service for the fallen and missing residents of Kythrea.

Senekis highlighted that President Nikos Christodoulides is actively working to overcome the prolonged deadlock and aims to resume substantive negotiations, which were interrupted in 2017. The Greek Cypriot side is prepared to seize every opportunity for progress, with the assistance of the United Nations and more active involvement by the European Union, to restart the peace process.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Senekis pointed out that the Turkish side's insistence on a partition-based solution contradicts the agreed framework for resolving the Cyprus issue. He reiterated that any solution should include the withdrawal of occupation troops and exclude outdated guarantees and intervention rights. Senekis firmly stated that the occupation does not become lawful over time, and injustice remains injustice, regardless of its presentation as normality.
