Cyprus Foreign Minister Engages in Key Diplomatic Meetings During Kuwait Visit

Kuwait city: Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos concluded his visit to Kuwait, where he participated in the 29th Joint Council and Ministerial Meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Foreign Minister met with the EU Special Representative for the Gulf, Luigi Di Maio. They discussed enhancing relations and strategic partnerships between the EU and GCC. Discussions also included topics related to the upcoming Cyprus EU Presidency and current regional issues.

Kombos also engaged with the Secretary General of the GCC, Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, signing a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at establishing consultations on issues of mutual interest. The agreement encompasses cooperation in political, regional, and international affairs, as well as in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, environment, and agriculture.

Additionally, Kombos met with Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Cyprus and Kuwait, and to bolster EU-GCC ties. Their dialogue also covered regional developments in the Middle East and humanitarian aid to Gaza, through the Amalthea corridor.

The Foreign Minister participated in the 29th GCC-EU Joint Council meeting, led by Kuwait’s Foreign Minister and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
