Nicosia:Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos has publicly announced his support for Lana Nusseibeh's candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations. He emphasized the importance of having female leadership in significant multilateral organizations.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Kombos praised Nusseibeh as an "experienced, effective, and distinguished diplomat," known for her commitment to dialogue, compromise, and achieving tangible results. He highlighted her strong record in supporting multilateralism and the objectives of the United Nations.
Kombos also pointed out that no suitable candidates have been nominated for the UN Secretary-General post under the current United Nations system rules. He stressed the urgency of advancing the selection process. In a concluding statement, Kombos wished Nusseibeh strength and success, expressing hope that her candidacy would pave the way for new opportunities.
