Nicosia: Bilateral ties between Cyprus and the UK, the Cyprus issue, and the forthcoming Cyprus EU Presidency were the focus of a meeting held in Nicosia between Foreign Minister, Constantinos Kombos, and a delegation of British MPs.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Kombos expressed in a post on ‘X’ that it was a “pleasure welcoming today at the Foreign Ministry a delegation of the All-party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Cyprus in the UK Parliament”. The discussions centered on strengthening Cyprus-UK relations, updates on the Cyprus Issue, and preparations for the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, set for the first half of 2026.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Despite numerous rounds of UN-led peace talks, a resolution has yet to be achieved. The most recent negotiations held in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana concluded without a definitive agreement.
