Nicosia: The European Union is the answer to the challenges of our times, Cyprus' Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos stated on Europe Day in a post on X. Celebrating the 76th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, Kombos highlighted the historical significance of the declaration, which laid the groundwork for the European project in the aftermath of the Second World War.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Kombos emphasized the foresight of Europe's visionaries who, after the war's devastation, envisioned a future built on European integration, economic cooperation, and political partnership. He elaborated on Cyprus' role as the current rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU, contributing to the strengthening of cooperation for an Autonomous Union that is open to the world. Cyprus is committed to a more competitive and enlarged EU, actively participating and supporting the European Union's objectives.
Kombos further expressed the importance of these efforts for all European citizens, underscoring Cyprus' aspirations for a reunited, free, and prosperous nation founded on European principles, values, and the acquis Communautaire.
