Cyprus Education Minister Highlights National Initiatives at EU Meeting

Dublin:Preparing citizens for the evolving demands of new technologies was a key topic at the Informal EU Education Ministers Meeting held in Dublin.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Education Minister Athena Michaelidou shared Cyprus' strategic actions at the meeting. These include the continuous updating of educational curricula, expanding compulsory pre-primary education from the age of four, enhancing teachers' professional development, and advancing the digital transformation of schools.

The Minister highlighted efforts to strengthen professional orientation and expand opportunities in technical and vocational education, as well as lifelong learning. She emphasized the responsible use of artificial intelligence, guided by a policy document from the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, which prioritizes teachers and the rights and well-being of children.

Michaelidou noted that these initiatives continue the work established during the Cyprus EU Presidency, particularly regarding teachers in the AI era. She reiterated Cyprus' commitment to strengthening the EU's role in supporting member states with data, tools, and expertise.

The Minister concluded by expressing the goal to transform these shared priorities into improved learning and meaningful opportunities for individuals at every life stage.
