Strasbourg: Cyprus Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna is traveling to Strasbourg to represent the Council of the European Union in the plenary session of the European Parliament, scheduled from April 27 to 30.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Deputy Minister will be involved in significant discussions, including the discharge procedure for the 2024 budget implementation and ensuring accountability in response to Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian civilians. She will also address supporting democratic resilience in Armenia.
Raouna will participate in discussions on the EU strategy regarding the Middle East crisis, its effects on energy prices and fertilizers, addressing anti-Semitism, and protecting the Jewish community in Europe following recent attacks in the Netherlands and Belgium. Additionally, the discussions will cover inclusion, equality, and fundamental rights of the Roma community.
In her capacity at the European Parliament, Raouna will co-sign legislative acts on behalf of the EU Council with EP President Roberta Metsola. She is also scheduled to deliver a speech at an event by the European Parliamentary Association on the outcomes and goals of the Cyprus EU Presidency.
