Nicosia: Cyprus’ Ministry of Defence will continue to make every effort to strengthen the nation’s defence and upgrade its operational capabilities, said Minister Vasilis Palmas during press statements following the military parade for Cyprus’ Independence Day.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Minister Palmas emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing the armed forces to effectively respond to modern multi-level challenges. He highlighted the importance of Cyprus being a pillar of cooperation and stability, as well as a reliable regional partner.
Minister Palmas noted that October 1st serves as a milestone in Cyprus’ modern history, reminding the nation of its struggles, sacrifices, and vision for freedom and independence. He described the day as one of remembrance and reflection, urging citizens to honor past national struggles and draw strength for future challenges. He paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for freedom and those who continue to work for the country’s security.
Minister Palmas also highlighted the National Guard’s decisive role as the guardian of Cyprus’ sovereignty and territorial integrity. He extended his congratulations to all parade participants and expressed gratitude to Greek Deputy Minister of National Defence, Thanasis Davakis, for his presence, which reinforces the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between Cyprus and Greece.
