Cyprus Coastal Areas Brace for Strong Winds and Rough Seas

Nicosia: Cyprus is set to experience turbulent weather conditions with strong winds and rough seas affecting its coastal areas over the next 24 hours. According to Cyprus News Agency, the Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast warning of strong southerly to southwesterly winds reaching force 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, which are expected to impact the western, southern, and eastern coasts of the island. These conditions will persist until noon, with moderate to rough sea states anticipated. The weather is expected to be mainly cloudy, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms occurring, although improvements are anticipated after midday. Dust will also be in suspension, affecting visibility, which will range from good to moderate but may become poor in certain areas. The sea surface temperature is currently recorded at 18°C. The forecast details that the west coast will experience southwest winds shifting to northwest, with the state of the sea varying from moderate to rough throughout the d ay. The south coast is predicted to encounter south to southwest winds, at times reaching near gale force, with sea conditions expected to be moderate to rough. Meanwhile, the east coast will face south to southwest winds, with sea states ranging from slight to moderate. The north coast is set to see a gradual shift in wind direction from south to southwest, with moderate sea conditions prevailing. Residents and maritime operators are advised to exercise caution due to the adverse weather conditions, particularly in the affected coastal regions.
