Cyprus Celebrates Green Monday Amid Rainy Weather

Nicosia: Cypriots celebrate Green Monday, which marks the beginning of Lent. Lenten dishes are essential on the table, while young and old alike will fly kites, the famous Cypriot ''petasi''. This year, outdoor excursions will take place in the rain, according to the CyMet forecast.

According to Cyprus News Agency, isolated storms are also expected, mainly in the mountains and possibly inland and the southeastern coast, with temperatures reaching 17 degrees Celsius in the interior, around 18 on the coast, and 6 degrees in the higher mountains. Local authorities have planned various events for Green Monday that include dancing and singing as well as performances of "tsiattista", the tradition of impromptu oral poetry performed with the accompaniment of the violin or lute.

Over the weekend, Cypriots across the island celebrated this year's carnival. The most well-known parade and celebrations took place in Limassol, attracting thousands of spectators and participants.
