Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, predicting challenging weather conditions for the period from 0600 on January 21, 2026, until 0600 on January 22, 2026. A weak high-pressure system is currently affecting the region, leading to mainly cloudy skies with medium and high clouds, and the possibility of isolated showers during the night. The atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast issuance is noted at 1025 hPa. According to Cyprus News Agency, a warning has been issued for strong and at times near gale northeasterly to southeasterly winds, ranging from force 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale. These winds are expected to impact the western, northern, and some southern coastal areas of Cyprus. The sea state is anticipated to be moderate initially, becoming moderate to rough, and locally rough over the western and northern coastal areas. Visibility is generally good but may reduce to moderate during showers. Currently, the sea surface temperature in t he region is recorded at 18°C, with low concentrations of dust in suspension. Residents and maritime operators in the affected areas are advised to exercise caution, particularly due to the potential for rough seas and strong winds. The warning remains in effect from 0900 LT to 2100 LT on January 21, 2026.
