Cyprus Braces for Strong Winds Affecting Coastal Areas

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, predicting significant weather changes over the next 24 hours. The forecast covers a period starting from 0600 on February 3, 2026, until 0600 on February 4, 2026, and includes warnings of fresh to strong winds affecting various parts of the island's coast.

According to Cyprus News Agency,

weak high pressure is currently influencing the area. Initially, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected, particularly over the western and northern regions. However, conditions are expected to improve by the afternoon, with mainly fine weather anticipated. The atmospheric pressure at the time of the report was measured at 1012 hPa, and sea surface temperatures are recorded at 18°C.

A weather warning has been issued, labeled as Warning Number 15, which is valid from 0000 to 1200 on February 3, 2026. The warning indicates that westerly to northwesterly winds, ranging from fresh to strong, and at times reaching near gale force, are expected to impact the western, southern, and northern coastal areas. Wind speeds are forecasted to be between 5 to 6 on the Beaufort scale, occasionally reaching 6 to 7. This will result in moderate sea conditions in the southern parts, while the western and northern parts will experience rough seas.

Visibility is predicted to range from good to moderate, though it may be locally poor in some areas. Mariners and residents in the affected coastal regions are advised to exercise caution due to the anticipated weather conditions.
