Nairobi: The highest overall electricity demand for midday this year is expected to be recorded today, as indicated by data published on the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) website. The information suggests that this surge in power requirements may lead to a new yearly record by the afternoon.
According to Cyprus News Agency, at 12:15 p.m., the total electricity demand reached 1,046 Megawatts (MW). This figure surpasses midday demands recorded on previous days in July, which were consistently below 1,000 MW. The record electricity demand for an entire day in July was previously set on July 2, hitting 1,062 MW at 4:15 p.m.
Earlier this year, the highest daily electricity demand was observed on June 27 at 2:30 p.m., reaching 1,077 MW. The second highest was recorded just a day before, on June 26 at 4:15 p.m., when it reached 1,065 MW.
To meet these demands, conventional electricity generation contributed 420 MW, solar photovoltaic production added 596 MW, and wind power production accounted for 31 MW. The TSO data also highlighted the installed capacity by technology for today: conventional capacity stands at 1,478 MW, wind power at 155.1 MW, solar photovoltaic at 839.92 MW, and biomass at 12.4 MW.
