Cyprus Braces for Cloudy Weather and Possible Showers Over Sea Area

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast predicting mainly cloudy weather conditions and the possibility of showers over the sea area surrounding Cyprus. The forecast covers an 8-kilometer stretch seawards and is valid from 1200 on February 16, 2026, until 1200 on February 17, 2026.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the atmospheric pressure over the area is currently at 1015 hPa, with a weak high-pressure system influencing weather patterns. While today will see intermittent cloud coverage, there is a risk of local light showers later in the evening. Tomorrow, local showers and isolated thunderstorms are anticipated, primarily affecting the western, northern, and southwestern regions. Dust is expected to be suspended in the atmosphere, impacting visibility, which will range from moderate to locally poor.

The sea conditions are forecasted to vary across different coastal areas. The west coast will experience east to southeast winds in the afternoon, shifting to west to northwest overnight, with the state of the sea remaining slight throughout. The south coast will have northeast to east winds in the afternoon, transitioning to northwest to northeast at night and then to southwest by morning, with conditions ranging from smooth to slight. On the east coast, northeast to east winds will prevail in the afternoon, becoming variable at night, with sea conditions changing from slight to smooth. The north coast will see north to northeast winds in the afternoon, turning variable at night, with conditions ranging from slight to moderate.

Sea surface temperatures are currently at 18°C, and no warnings have been issued for the period.
