Hanoi:Preparations are in progress to renew the Cyprus-US agreement that imposes import restrictions on archaeological objects and other cultural property, aiming to protect cultural heritage, as stated by the Customs and Excise Department.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Customs and Excise Department met with a delegation from the US Embassy in Cyprus last Tuesday. During the meeting, the department shared its experience in detecting illegal movements of cultural property and discussed trends in smuggling, as well as challenges faced in investigating related offenses.
The US delegation was led by Andrew Zonderman from the US Cultural Heritage Center. In a further step, the Director of the Customs and Excise Department, along with an officer from the Investigations Section B, participated in a coordination meeting with Zonderman as part of the National Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage.
Department officers are also scheduled to join an online meeting on October 27 to finalize the renewal process of the agreement.
