Cyprus and IAEA to Sign Memorandum of Cooperation on Nuclear Safety

Nicosia: Cyprus Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Moushouttas, will sign in Vienna a Memorandum of Cooperation on nuclear safety with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi.

According to Cyprus News Agency, a press release from the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance states that Moushouttas is scheduled to travel to Vienna on Sunday to represent the Republic of Cyprus at the IAEA General Conference, where he will deliver the Republic of Cyprus's National Statement.

During his visit, the Minister will engage in a private meeting with the IAEA Director General, Rafael Mariano Grossi, to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation focusing on nuclear security. The agreement will particularly emphasize leveraging the capabilities of the Cyprus-based CYCLOPS centre as the Agency's regional training centre, as mentioned in the press release.

The release noted that CYCLOPS (Cyprus Centre for Land, Open-seas and Port Security) is a training centre owned by the Republic of Cyprus and located in Larnaka. The project has been developed in close collaboration with the US administration, following a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 12 September 2020 between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States of America.
