Paris:A Declaration of Intent on Cultural Cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and the French Republic was signed by Clea Papaellina, the Deputy Minister for Culture of Cyprus, and Catherine Pégard, the French Minister for Culture. The signing took place in Paris and marks a significant step in enhancing cultural ties between the two nations.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Declaration implements the provisions of the Cyprus-France Strategic Partnership, an agreement established last December by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and French President Emmanuel Macron. This is the first time the longstanding relationship between Cyprus and France has been formalized into an official framework, aiming to deepen their mutual trust and shared cultural values.
The Declaration of Intent aims to develop joint cultural programs, enhance mobility among cultural organizations and artists, and facilitate co-productions. It also includes plans for joint exhibitions, research initiatives, and cooperation on protecting cultural heritage. Additionally, it addresses the fight against the illicit trafficking of cultural property.
The agreement is set for immediate implementation, with both ministers committing to specific actions and priorities to transform their cultural cooperation into tangible outcomes. This cooperation was further highlighted during the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026, which featured notable cultural exhibitions and events in Paris.
