Accra:Cyprus is experiencing growth rates that place it among the leading economies in Europe, as stated by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis. In a written statement, Letymbiotis emphasized the government's aim to leverage this momentum to achieve further progress and prosperity for the entire society.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis highlighted that the government's strategy focuses on increasing disposable income, providing robust family support, strengthening the welfare state, and creating better opportunities for the younger generation. He referred to revised National Accounts data, noting that Cyprus ranks as one of the EU's two fastest-growing economies for the third consecutive year, with a growth rate of 6.0% in 2023, 6.6% in 2024, and 4.8% in 2025.
The Cypriot economy's growth of 4.8% in 2025 significantly outpaces the EU average of 1.4% and the eurozone's 1.2%. Letymbiotis stated that Cyprus ranked first in the EU in 2024 and second in 2023, maintaining a strong position in European economic performance despite global economic and geopolitical challenges.
He further noted that these developments underscore the resilience and dynamism of the Cypriot economy, reflecting a broadened productive base, significant investments, attraction of new business activities, and confidence from international investors. This economic strength improves fiscal positions, public debt indicators, and the state's capacity to support society meaningfully.
Letymbiotis also highlighted a 15% increase in median earnings, demonstrating the tangible social benefits of strong economic growth. He emphasized that economic progress leads to better employment opportunities, higher wages, and a higher standard of living, which are the true values of growth. The government plans to continue its efforts with fiscal responsibility and determination, aiming for a prosperous future for Cyprus.
