Cypriot Students Achieve Record Success in Commonwealth Essay Competition

Nicosia: Students from Cypriot schools have achieved remarkable success in this year's The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition (QCEC), an annual event organized by the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) since 1883. This competition includes two categories: the Senior Category for students aged 14-18 and the Junior Category for those under 14.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the RCS Cyprus, established in 2018 and affiliated with the University of Nicosia, played a significant role in promoting the QCEC to Cypriot schools. The society also had members assisting in the evaluation of the essays. This year, nearly 53,434 students from 54 Commonwealth countries participated in the QCEC. Cyprus marked a new record with 381 participants, an increase from 275 participations in 2024.

The participation itself is commendable, but RCS Cyprus is particularly proud of the significant number of medals won by students from Cypriot schools. In the Senior Category, students received 12 gold, 41 silver, and 81 bronze medals. Meanwhile, in the Junior Category, the tally was 11 gold, 40 silver, and 57 bronze medals. Altogether, students from Cypriot schools won 23 gold, 81 silver, and 138 bronze medals in 2025, a total of 242 medals compared to 116 in 2024.

The Board of Directors of RCS Cyprus extends heartfelt congratulations to all students for their accomplishments. In recognition of their achievements, RCS Cyprus will also present the students with a book on the relationship between Cyprus and the Commonwealth.
