Cypriot MEP Highlights Turkish Provocations in Buffer Zone

Strasbourg: Cypriot MEP, Geadis Geadi, representing ELAM - ECR, addressed the European Parliament Plenary Session in Strasbourg, drawing attention to incidents involving Greek Cypriot farmers and Turkish soldiers within the Buffer Zone. Geadi expressed concerns over the recent provocations by Turkish forces, emphasizing the potential dangers faced by the farmers in the region.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Geadi detailed specific incidents occurring in the villages of Denia and Mammari, where Turkish soldiers, along with occupation authorities, reportedly threw stones at Greek Cypriot farmers. He noted that while there were no fatalities, the situation remains tense and precarious. Geadi also mentioned another incident in the village of Avlona, where Turkish forces advanced into the Buffer Zone, further escalating tensions.

Geadis Geadi urged the European Parliament to respond decisively, advocating for the adoption of a condemnation resolution in the upcoming February Plenary. He called for solidarity and support from all political groups to prevent future incidents and potential casualties. Geadi concluded his address by referencing the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola's stance on territorial integrity, stating, "Greenland is not for sale, and we must send the same message that Cyprus is not for sale either."
