Nicosia: The two-day Meeting of the Heads of Diplomatic Missions of the Republic of Cyprus abroad commenced on Wednesday in the capital city. The gathering aims to align the diplomats with the country’s foreign policy goals and upcoming international responsibilities.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the diplomats were briefed by President Nikos Christodoulides and Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos on the strategic priorities of Cyprus’ foreign policy. The session included an extensive exchange of views, offering a platform for the diplomats to align their efforts with the national objectives.
The meeting also focused on the upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU. Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna informed the diplomats about the various issues related to the presidency, emphasizing the significance of their roles in the preparations. Raouna highlighted the progress made so far and outlined the six-month program, priorities, and organizational matters, including cultur
al events to be held abroad.
Tomorrow, the meeting will feature an address by French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot, who accepted an invitation from his Cypriot counterpart to participate in the discussions. Raouna expressed that the involvement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic missions is vital for ensuring the success of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.
