Limassol: The excellent cooperation between the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works and the companies managing the terminals at Limassol port, Eurogate CTL and DP World Limassol, will continue, the new Minister, Evi Tsolaki, pledged on Friday. The Minister visited Limassol Port in the morning, where she held separate meetings with the management of the container terminal operator (Eurogate CTL) and the general cargo and cruise terminal operator (DP World Limassol).
According to Cyprus News Agency, the visit took place as part of an introductory meeting and included a tour of the facilities and a briefing, by Chief Operating Officer Alexandros Demetriades, on current issues facing the operating company as well as on how the container terminal operates.
It is added that Tsolaki had the opportunity to be briefed on the investments made by the operating company to upgrade the terminal's infrastructure, as well as on the projects currently underway to extend the quay and create new storage areas.
"Following the meeting, the Minister for Transport assured Eurogate's management that the excellent cooperation between the two parties would continue, adding that further meetings would be scheduled immediately for an in-depth discussion of the issues facing the port industry," the statement added.
For his part, Demetriades, after thanking the Minister of Transport for her visit, wished her every success in her new role, expressing satisfaction at the continuation of cooperation between the two parties, with the aim of the ongoing development and strengthening of Cyprus' maritime ecosystem.
Furthermore, in a statement, DP World Limassol says the Minister was briefed on the infrastructure, the day-to-day operations of the terminal and the wide range of services that support commercial, shipping and tourism activities.
Particular emphasis was placed on the role of Limassol Port as Cyprus' main cruise gateway, with DP World Limassol assuring that, through the cruise terminal "it supports the further development of the sector, whilst strengthening Cyprus' position on the map of Eastern Mediterranean cruise destinations."
In a statement, the Chief Executive of DP World Limassol, Simon Pitout, expressed his satisfaction at the visit by the Minister of Transport, noting that "the port plays a pivotal role in trade, tourism and Cyprus' links with the wider world, and we are proud of DP World Limassol's contribution to the Cypriot economy," adding that "the cruise sector, in particular, can bring significant benefits not only to the port, but also to local businesses, the community and tourism more broadly."
