Kyvides: The Minister of the Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, held a meeting on Thursday with the leaders of the communities that were affected by the wildfires in July, during which he assured them that the Government and competent services are working intensively to speed up compensation.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Ioannou briefed the community leaders on the progress of the implementation of restoration measures. He assured fast licensing and compensation procedures, as well as the adoption of measures to address the weaknesses identified in preventing and combating the fire.
Present at the meeting that took place in the village of Kyvides, in the mountainous region of Limassol, were the Commissioner for the Development of Mountainous Areas, Charalambos Christofinas, community leaders, and other officials.
Ioannou informed the community leaders that the lump-sum payment announced by the President of the Republic will be completed by Friday. Regarding the damage assessment, he said it is progressing rapidly, noting that ‘simplified procedures have already been implemented’ and added that ‘tomorrow the first beneficiaries will be notified to visit the District Administration and begin receiving their compensations’.
On his part, the Commissioner for the Development of Mountainous Communities, Charalambos Christofinas, said that there are 157 people in immediate need of long-term housing until their homes are fixed or rebuilt.
