Athens: Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, is in Greece this week to attend major maritime events. Tomorrow, May 6, the Commissioner will deliver a keynote address at the Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum. The 8th edition of this event will bring together stakeholders from the cruise sector, tourist destinations, and maritime tourism authorities in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean to discuss the evolution of cruise tourism. The forum will address a wide range of challenges and opportunities for the industry in the region.
According to Cyprus News Agency, on May 8, the Commissioner will deliver a keynote address at the ESPO Conference, which this year will focus on “Towards a Strategy for European Ports in the Post-2024 Era.” Competitiveness, safety, and the net-zero transition of European ports are among the key topics to be discussed. In addition, the Commissioner will discuss the sector’s strategic priorities with the CEOs of 30 EU ports.
Ahead of his visit, Commissioner Tzitzikostas highlighted the importance of Europe’s ports in addressing today’s challenges and their potential in sustainable development and economic competitiveness. He noted that ports are essential for energy, military mobility, logistics, and international trade, and emphasized their role in the future of cruise tourism. The future EU Ports Strategy aims to ensure that ports remain modern and resilient gateways to the world.
