Calm Seas Expected Around Cyprus Amid Weak High Pressure


Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast indicating that the sea area surrounding Cyprus will experience calm conditions over the next 24 hours, with weak high pressure currently affecting the region. The weather is expected to be mainly fine, providing good visibility for maritime activities. Sea surface temperatures are recorded at 20°C, and the atmospheric pressure at the time of the report was 1014 hPa.

According to Cyprus News Agency, there are no warnings in effect for the period from 0600 on May 10, 2026, to 0600 on May 11, 2026. Throughout this period, the winds in the region are anticipated to remain moderate, ranging from variable to northwesterly directions, with speeds on the Beaufort scale varying between 3 and 4 across different coastal areas of Cyprus.

Along the west coast, the morning will see variable winds at a Beaufort scale of 3, creating smooth to slight sea conditions, which will continue into the afternoon with winds shifting to west to northwest at 3 to 4,
locally increasing to 4. By night, winds are expected to transition to northwest to north at 3, locally starting at northwest 3 to 4, maintaining smooth to slight seas.

The south coast will experience similar conditions with variable winds in the morning at Beaufort 3, shifting to southwest at 3 to 4 in the afternoon and northwest to northeast at 3 during the night. This will result in smooth to slightly rough seas throughout the period.

On the east coast, morning winds will be variable at 3, transitioning to southwest at 3 to 4 in the afternoon and west to northwest at 3 during the night, maintaining smooth to slight sea states.

For the north coast, variable winds at 3 will be present in the morning, changing to southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 in the afternoon, and reverting to variable at 3 at night, ensuring smooth to slight sea conditions.

The forecast suggests stable and predictable maritime conditions around Cyprus, providing a favorable environment for navigation and other sea-related activities.
