Nicosia: The number of building permits issued in May 2026 reached 735, marking a 21.1% increase compared to May of the previous year, according to data released by the Statistical Service on Wednesday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the permits issued in May have a total value of £428.2 million and encompass a total area of 352.1 thousand square meters. These permits are set to facilitate the construction of 1,847 dwelling units. This includes 232 single houses, 128 buildings with two housing units, 1,483 residential apartment blocks, and 4 residential/commercial apartment blocks.
From January to May 2026, a total of 3,650 building permits were issued, compared to 2,764 in the same period the previous year, reflecting a 32.1% increase. The total value of these permits rose by 43.9%, and the total area expanded by 43.1%. The number of dwelling units saw a significant increase of 63.7%.
