Nicosia: Building permits in Cyprus experienced a significant annual increase of 19.5% during the period from January to December 2025. This data was revealed by the Statistical Service of Cyprus, highlighting a robust growth in the construction sector.
According to Cyprus News Agency, a press release highlighted that the number of building permits authorized in December 2025 alone was 819. The total value of these permits amounted to £415.4 million, covering a total area of 328.8 thousand square meters. These permits are set to facilitate the construction of 1,770 dwelling units.
Throughout the entire year of 2025, a total of 8,159 building permits were issued, a notable increase from the 6,827 permits issued in the previous year, marking a 19.5% rise. The total value of the permits saw a substantial increase of 37.8%, while the total area covered by these permits surged by 41.0%. Additionally, the number of dwelling units saw a remarkable growth of 42.7%.
It is important to note that as of July 1, 2024, the responsibility for issuing building permits shifted from the municipalities and district administration offices to the newly established Local Government Organizations (LGOs). This change was accompanied by the implementation of a new integrated information system named "Ippodamos" for handling the licensing process.
