Nicosia: Employment in the Broad Public Sector in the 2nd quarter of 2026 reached 78,433 persons, recording an increase of 1,119 persons, or 1.4%, compared with the corresponding quarter of 2025, according to data published on Monday by the Statistical Service.

According to Cyprus News Agency, of the total number of employees, 73,284 were employed in General Government and 5,149 in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies. More specifically, General Government comprised 55,372 State Employees, 11,314 employees in Non-Profit Organisations, and 6,598 employees in Local Authorities.

Compared with the corresponding quarter of 2025, employment in General Government increased by 1,009 persons (1.4%), with Central Government recording an increase of 293 persons (0.4%) and Local Authorities recording an increase of 716 persons (12.2%). The increase in the employment of Local Authorities is mainly attributed to District Local Government Organisations, where employment increased by 416 persons, or 39.1%. The employment of Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies increased by 110 persons (2.2%).

Compared to the 1st quarter of 2026, employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 45 persons (0.1%). Employment in General Government increased by 48 persons (0.1%), with a decrease of 144 persons (-0.2%) in Central Government and an increase of 192 persons (3%) in Local Authorities. A decrease of 3 persons (-0.1%) was recorded in the employment of Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies.
