British Father Fined in Connection to Son’s Death in Pafos Tragedy

Pafos:The District Court of Pafos has fined a 37-year-old British father £3,000 following the tragic death of his 3-year-old son, who fell from a hotel window in Chloraka. The court's decision was announced on Friday, with the man surrounded by his parents and other relatives.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the court attributed the incident to a 'momentary lapse' rather than a deliberate act. The presiding judge emphasized the severity of the tragedy, acknowledging the lasting impact it would have on the father. Despite the fine, which was described as the minimum possible under the Criminal Code, the father was released, and the remaining bail paid during the proceedings is to be refunded.

Lawyer Alexandros Alexandrou, representing the father, noted that the court accepted the argument of a momentary lapse without gross negligence. He expressed gratitude for the judge's handling of the case, which he felt was approached with care and respect. Alexandrou also mentioned that the defense had sought to suspend criminal proceedings, a request that was ultimately not granted.

The father expressed his appreciation for his lawyer's support and stated his anticipation of returning home with his family following the legal proceedings.
