Bounced Cheques Decline to 213 in 2025

Nicosia: The number of bounced cheques in Cyprus fell to 213 in 2025, as reported by the preliminary list in the Central Information Register of the Central Bank of Cyprus.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the decline in bounced cheques is significant compared to previous years, with 300 in 2024, 356 in 2023, and 473 in 2022. This decrease suggests an improvement in cheque handling and financial stability among individuals and businesses in Cyprus.

The value of outstanding cheques in 2025 was recorded at 630,249 euros. This is a slight increase from 617,873 euros in 2024, but a notable decrease from 1,767,912 euros in 2023 and 1,518,669 euros in 2022. The reduction in value over the years indicates progress in managing cheque transactions effectively.

Moreover, entries in the Central Information Register for issuers of bounced cheques reached 113 in 2025. This includes 39 legal entities, 28 natural persons, and 46 natural persons controlling legal entities. In comparison, the total number of entries was 202 in 2024, 274 in 2023, and 255 in 2022. This trend highlights a reduction in the number of individuals and entities involved in issuing bounced cheques.
