Bad Cheques Totaling £37,188 in June, Reports CBC

Nicosia: The number of bounced cheques issued in June 2026 recorded a slight increase compared to the same month last year, as 16 bounced cheques were issued, compared to 13, with a total value of £37,188, according to data published on Wednesday by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) regarding entries in the preliminary list of the Central Information Register (CIR) for issuers of bad cheques.

According to Cyprus News Agency, specifically in June 2025, 13 bounced cheques with a total value of £28,296 were recorded, while in June 2024, 12 cheques with a total value of £13,048 were recorded. During the period January-February 2026, CBC data showed that 25 bounced cheques with a total value of £94,551 were recorded in the CIR preliminary list, compared to 50 cheques during the corresponding period last year, with a total value of £84,555.

The bounced cheques during the January-February 2026 period involved a total of 58 persons (39 legal entities and 19 natural persons). Furthermore, according to CBC data, the persons or entities registered in the Central Information Register stood at 10 in June 2026, of which 4 were legal entities, 1 was a natural person, and 5 were natural persons controlling legal entities.

During the period from January to February 2026, a total of 60 persons were registered in the CIR, compared to 113 persons during the corresponding period in 2025.
