Nicosia: In 2025, a significant decrease was recorded in the average monthly number of registrations of natural and legal persons for issuing "bad" cheques, both in the register (-47%) and in the preliminary list (-23%), compared with 2024, according to the 2025 report of the management committee of the Central Information Register for the Issuers of Dishonoured Cheques (CIR). According to Cyprus News Agency, the report published by the Central Bank of Cyprus on Wednesday highlighted a notable decrease in the average monthly number of registrations of natural and legal persons in both the main register and the preliminary list compared with 2024. Specifically, in 2025, the average monthly number of registrations of natural or legal persons was 9 in the main register and 10 in the preliminary list, compared with 17 and 13 respectively in 2024. During 2025, 19 sessions of the CIR committee were held, during which 202 requests for deletion of natural and legal persons from the register were examined. The princ ipal objective for 2026, the report notes, is the commencement of the project to replace the existing electronic CIR system with a new one that will fully meet modern technological and regulatory requirements.
