Agriculture Ministry Announces 2025 Financial Aid for Enclaved and Resettled Primary-Sector Workers

Nicosia: The Department of Agriculture at the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment has announced the payment of financial support for 2025 aimed at enclaved and resettled people working in the primary sector.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the department stated that the assistance is intended to address the 'special circumstances and increased difficulties' faced by enclaved farmers, livestock breeders, and fishers, as well as resettled farmers. This measure forms part of the ministry's ongoing policy to ease practical problems and support communities living under particularly challenging conditions.

For 2025, nearly £1 million has been allocated to approximately 300 eligible beneficiaries residing in the communities of Rizokarpaso, Agia Triada, Agios Andronikos, Kormakitis, and Karpasia. About £940,000 of the total is provided through the Regular Scheme, which operates annually. The remaining amount will be distributed via an Extraordinary One-Off Investment Scheme introduced in 2025 after consultations with community leaders and the affected farmers.

Under the extraordinary scheme, the maximum grant per applicant has been increased to £20,000, compared with £7,000 in 2022. The department also noted that value-added tax on the purchase of agricultural machinery will be included when calculating the subsidy, and the scheme was designed around practical needs linked to farm operations. Officials indicated that the investment scheme prioritizes equipment, infrastructure, and measures that enhance productivity and safety.

The ministry highlighted that consultations with the communities occur annually, with the aim of continually upgrading support measures and adapting them to real needs on the ground. It was within this framework that additional targeted assistance was approved through the one-off investment scheme.

As a further outcome of the 2025 consultations, the ministry has also implemented improvements and simplifications to the Regular Scheme, effective from the same year, to facilitate easier application processes for beneficiaries and administration by the authorities.
