Doha: Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, engaged in discussions with Qatar’s Minister of Interior Affairs and Municipalities, Abdullah bin Hammad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, to explore future cooperation on mutual interests. These talks took place during Panayiotou’s participation at the Earthna Summit 2025.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture released a statement detailing the meeting’s focus on potential cooperation and knowledge exchange in areas such as food security, strategic reserve management, waste management, and water resources. The meeting, attended by Permanent Secretary of Agriculture, Andreas Grigoriou, and Cyprus’ Ambassador to Qatar, Andreas Nicolaides, also addressed climate challenges like climate change and desertification.

The press release emphasized the agreement to continue collaboration on common challenges, particularly those arising from the hot and arid climate both countries experience. Additionally, the Minister of Agriculture invited the Qatari Minister to visit Cyprus as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.

The parties also decided to update the existing Memorandum of Cooperation in the Water Sector, initially signed in 2014, to include advancements in desalination, treatment, and reuse of urban wastewater. Furthermore, they agreed to establish a new Memorandum addressing agricultural issues, the press release confirmed.
