Nicosia: The 2nd General Meeting of the AEOLUS project (AI driven Efficient Object Detection for Low power Unmanned Surveillance) was held on July 9th, 2026, at European University Cyprus. The meeting underscored the project's progress in developing efficient object detection models for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), supported by a funding of £150,000 from the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) under the PhD in Industry call (PHD IN INDUSTRY/1123/0145). The project is coordinated by the R and D company CyRIC, with participation from the Aristarchus Research Center of European University Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the AEOLUS project aims to bridge the gap between performance efficiency and inference speed by creating lightweight, powerful object detection models that address the limitations of existing imaging technologies. These limitations include cost, operational conditions, technological barriers, and computational requirements, which the project seeks to overcome.
During the meeting, the consortium reviewed the progress achieved and discussed the subsequent phase of project activities. Key topics included milestones, ongoing research efforts, dissemination actions, and upcoming development objectives. The meeting highlighted how initial ideas are transforming into tangible research outcomes through collaboration and knowledge exchange.
