Addition in European Council Conclusions on Security and Defence at Cyprus-Greece Request

Brussels: An addition to the Chapter on EU Security and Defence in the European Council conclusions was made at a request submitted by Cyprus and Greece, CNA has learned.

According to Cyprus News Agency, government sources have indicated that the second half of the sentence “The European Council underlines the importance of working together with like-minded partners, who share our foreign policy and security goals,” has been added. This addition emphasizes the collaborative approach of the EU in matters of security and defence, aligning with the interests of Cyprus and Greece.

Meanwhile, national delegations have been informed that for logistical reasons, the European Council would table the items, initially foreseen for the afternoon session, in the morning. These items include Defence, Migration, Preparedness, Internal Security, Hybrid Threats, Moldova, and the Western Balkans. The lunch on the Middle East was maintained, while discussions concerning Ukraine will occur in the afternoon.
