Limassol: The Acting Secretary General of the House of Representatives, Panicos Pourgourides, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis. This meeting took place on the sidelines of PACE’s Committee on Rules of Procedure, Immunities and Institutional Affairs, which was hosted by the House of Representatives on November 13 and 14.
According to Cyprus News Agency, during their interaction, Pourgourides extended his warm congratulations to Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis on her re-election as Secretary General of the Assembly. He expressed his gratitude for the Assembly’s unwavering support and its consistent principled stance towards the Republic of Cyprus. Pourgourides also lauded Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis for her efforts in promoting democratic principles, the rule of law, and respect for human rights.
It was further noted that Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis expressed her gratitude to the House of Representatives for hosting the Committee meeting in Limassol. She emphasized the importance of cooperation between PACE and national parliaments, highlighting that such collaborations are mutually beneficial and enhance inter-parliamentary dialogue across Europe.
Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis also conveyed her deep appreciation for the Cypriot delegation to PACE. She acknowledged that the members have frequently assumed significant positions within the Assembly and actively contribute to its work, adhering to the principles and values of the Organisation.
