Above-Normal Temperatures and Storms Expected in Cyprus, Says Meteorological Officer

Nicosia: Temperatures will remain above normal over the weekend, while on Monday local rains and isolated storms are expected, a Meteorological Officer has told CNA, adding that in storm there may be hail and snow on the highest peaks of Troodos mountains. Moreover, at times there will be dust in the atmosphere over the weekend, which may linger until Monday night with increased concentrations, while from Tuesday onwards it will at least temporarily subside.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Meteorological Officer Andreas Chrysanthou said that rain is expected on Saturday at specific areas, while there will be dust and fog. Temperatures are and will remain until Monday above normal at around 19 to 20 degrees in the interior and coastal areas, and around 10 degrees in the highest mountains.

He said that it will continue to be cloudy and did not rule out some light rain on Sunday. However, he added, a disturbance that is currently in the Western Mediterranean is moving towards the East and when it reaches Greece it will begin to affect Cyprus in the evening.

On Sunday, some isolated rain is expected in the west, but on Monday local rain and isolated storms are expected, while in storm there may be hail as well as snow on the highest peaks of Troodos mountains. The weather on Tuesday and Wednesday will be mainly clear, he noted.
