Abbas Thanks Cyprus for Solidarity During Meeting with President Christodoulides

Ramallah: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his gratitude for Cyprus’ solidarity during a meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, who briefed him on Cyprus’ efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza through the island.

According to Cyprus News Agency, In a written statement, Antoniou said that President Christodoulides traveled to Ramallah, Palestine, on Sunday evening, where he was received by President Abbas. Following a welcome ceremony with a guard of honour, the two Presidents held a private meeting, he added.

‘Welcoming President Christodoulides, the Palestinian leader referred to the ties between the two countries and their peoples and expressed his appreciation for Cyprus’ solidarity,’ Antoniou noted. President Abbas, he said, briefed President Christodoulides on the current situation and stressed the need for a ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

President Christodoulides reiterated Cyprus’ firm position in favour of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and thanked Abbas for Palestine’s consistent stance on the Cyprus issue. He also informed the Palestinian President about Cyprus’ ongoing efforts to deliver aid to civilians in Gaza, an issue he had discussed earlier with the political leadership of Israel.

‘President Christodoulides expressed his readiness to inform his European counterparts of Palestine’s positions and convey a clear picture of the current situation. He also referred to the role the Republic of Cyprus can play during its Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026,’ Antoniou concluded.
