US “disappointed” over lack of agreement in Crans-Montana

The United States is disappointed the Conference on Cyprus in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, has closed without an agreement, said Heather Nauert, a State Department Spokesperson.

We express gratitude and respect for the hard work by all parties and for the United Nations’ facilitation. The United States will continue to support efforts to reunify the island as a bizonal, bicommunal federation, which would benefit all Cypriots Nauert said in a written statement.

UN-backed talks that took place between June 28-July 7, in Crans Montana, Switzerland, ended inconclusively. Peace talks aim to reunite Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion, under a federal roof.
