US Assistant Secretary fo State for Energy Resources to travel to Jerusalem, Nicosia and Cairo

The US State Department announced that Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Francis R. Fannon will travel to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem; Nicosia, and Cairo from November 11 to 20, 2018.

During his trip, Assistant Secretary Fannon will be meeting with government officials and private sector representatives to discuss energy security and regional cooperation on energy issues, the State Department said in a press release.

His trip will highlight the economic opportunities in the energy sector for Eastern Mediterranean gas development and related exports, and encourage discussions on how countries can harness this potential for increased regional stability and economic growth, the release added.

Fannon met with Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Chistodoulides last Tuesday. The Cypriot FM was in Washington and met with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as well as with Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell.

Fannon’s visit coincides with the commencement of an exploratory well to be carried out by the consortium of ExxonMobil � Qatar Petroleum in Cyprus’ block 10 scheduled to begin in mid-November.
