US Ambassador happy of Cypriot authorities’ support on security matters

US Ambassador in Cyprus Kathleen Ann Doherty has said she is very happy with the support the Embassy has received from Cypriot authorities concerning security matters.

In statements, on the side lines of a visit at the Limassol municipality, on Monday, Doherty commented on the many changes taking place in the city noting that I feel the great energy and innovation of the city.

It is really quite remarkable to see all that is going on, she added.

Referring to her meeting with municipal authorities she said that we talked about the role of the University and I think it is exciting to see all the changes here in Limassol and I know given all the American investment that is happening here in Cyprus, it also has an impact here in Limassol.

Asked how worried the US are on the situation in the Middle East Doherty said that obviously we are watching all events in around the region and we have been watching them for several months.

I have been very happy on seeing the support of the Cypriot authorities if we had any requests to security issues but right now we are hoping things will stay calm and have no negative impact on anything, she pointed out.

Replying to a question about whether US President Donald Trump regretted that he recognised Jerusalem, the US Ambassador noted that the President has made this decision based on consultations with one of his partners and it is the Presidents decision, it is the White Houses decision, it is the Administration’s position.

We are here to support the President, she added.
