Unemployment in Cyprus was recorded at 12.1% at the 2nd quarter of 2016, down from 14.1% at the first quarter and 14.6% in the 2nd quarter of last year, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service show.
According to the data services was the sector in which most people were employed (79.4%), a small annual increase was recorded in part time employment (14.1% compared to 13.8% at the same period of 2015) and youth unemployment dropped by approximately 5 percentage points (26.8% compared to 31.7% at the same period of 2015). Of those unemployed, 46.5% were considered to be long term unemployed that is to say they have been looking for a job for over a year, a percentage which in the 2nd quarter of 2015 stood at 46.8%.
According to the results of the Labour Force Survey, the labour force in the 2nd quarter of 2016 amounted to 421,813 persons .
