Members of the strong UK Cypriot community in Britain have addressed a letter to the Foreign Office Minister for Europe Sir Alan Duncan asking for his and the UK Government’s very much needed help and support for Cyprus, which is still divided and under Turkish occupation since 1974.

Referring to the upcoming Conference on Cyprus in Switzerland’s Crans Montana which will bring together all involved parties starting next Wednesday, the letter notes that There is now a window of opportunity on 28th June 2017 to reunite the island of the Goddess Aphrodite and we urge our British Government to increase their efforts and their influence towards a workable and peaceful solution without guarantees and without foreign troops as the needs of 2017 are not the same as of 1959. The United Nations and The European Union can be the guarantors of Cyprus.

The signatories Doros Partasides, Antonis Savvides, Andreas Tambourides, Nikos Savvides, Tasos Poyiatzis, Serafim Diacou, Yiannis Kouvaros, Stella Dinenis, Maria Zavros and Leonidas Leonidou also express their deepest sorrow for the families who have lost loved ones in the recent events in Manchester and London.

We strongly believe that we have to continue our daily lives and protect our democracy, our freedom, our British liberal and tolerant society, they declare in their letter to the Minister for Europe.
