Turnout in mayoral elections for Famagusta at 15.9% until 12.00 noon

Voter turnout in elections held on Sunday for the next Famagusta mayor was 15.9% until 12.00, when polls closed for an one-hour break until 13.00 local time (10.00am GMT).

Returning officer Georgios Chrysafinis told CNA that elections proceed smoothly. Polls opened at 7.00am and will close at 6.00pm, with a one-hour break between 12.00 and 13.00.

Voter turnout until 12.00 was 15.9% Chrysafinis concluded. There are 31,589 registered voters for the mayoral elections in Famagusta. Elections for the mayor of the Turkish-occupied city are held after the sudden death of Alexis Galanos last month.

Linos Papayiannis, Simos Ioannou, Nikos Karoullas, Andreas Lordos and Georgios Stavri are the five candidates running for the post.
